Australian Shopping Habits & Retail Sentiment 2017
Description
In Australia, shopping behaviours and habits are currently undergoing great shifts as a number of societal changes and industry innovations impact the shopping industry; Millennials are the emerging spending demographic; Access to online shopping and convenience is important; Private labels are viewed positively by a sizeable number of shoppers; Shoppers are less loyal to retailers. These greater issues are not the focus of this study, however, the impact of a changed shopping environment now challenges assumptions previously held about how shoppers behave.
This Dynamic Report seeks to explore the general behaviour of shoppers and their sentiment towards different retailers and why.
Research notes
This survey was structured from the Glow database of questions, written and tested by Glow researchers. The questions were based on common reports around the language used by consumers when describing grocery retailers. The answers provided in these surveys are not exhaustive and it is possible that other options or answers are likely to exist, however respondents were given the option to choose ‘other’ and input a text option where a list was not exhaustive. The inferences made from this report are only based on the quantitative results found in the survey and interpreted with considerations to findings in other secondary research.
This survey was administered to respondents via an online panel, and therefore there are limitations to the inferences of the sample only applying to those with access to computers and who partake in online panel surveys. However, in this instance there is no reason to suggest this should impact the outcomes of the data significantly.
Respondents were allowed to leave the survey at any time, they were also incentivised for their involvement, however, they were asked to provide honest answers and advised their answers will have no impact on the incentive provided.
This survey was between 30-38 questions in length depending on the answers provided by respondents, as some questions screened respondents who did not qualify to respond to various questions. The sample was collected between 4th July - 12th July 2017 at a rate of approximately 100 respondents per day, spread throughout various times of the day.
