Description

In Australia, unhealthy diets and obesity are resulting in poor health and high costs to the economy through more expensive health care and productivity losses. Less than 7% of Australians consume diets that are consistent with the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

Unhealthy food environments are the major drivers of obesity and related non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Food and beverage manufacturers play an important role in improving the healthiness of food environments and population diets. This study assessed the nutrition policies and commitments of the largest Australian food and non-alcoholic beverage manufacturers with the objective of demonstrating leadership in obesity prevention, identifying good practices and making recommendations for improvement.
